3° Workshop di drammaturgia – Simon Stephens

Simon Stephens, dopo le edizioni del 2018 e del 2019, che hanno visto partecipanti entusiasti da Italia, Regno Unito, Francia, Belgio, Olanda, Polonia e USA, e lo straordinario successo della sua drammaturgia de “Lo strano caso del cane ucciso a mezzanotte”, che ha portato al Teatro Elfo Puccini oltre 20.000 spettatori, torna a grande richiesta presso lo spazio The Art Land per un nuovo workshop di due giorni.

Si tratta di un’occasione assolutamente imperdibile che consigliamo sia a drammaturghi con esperienza sia agli emergenti, per cimentarsi ed imparare da una guida capace di umanità e fortissima passione per il proprio mestiere.

Il workshop è a numero chiuso. I posti disponibili sono 15 e la lingua di insegnamento è l’inglese: è pertanto necessaria una buona padronanza – almeno a livello C1 – sia nello scritto che nel parlato.
Il workshop si svolge il 16 e 17 maggio, dalle 9.00 alle 14.00.
Altri eventi collaterali (visite a teatri, incontri con compagnie, visione di prove) verranno organizzati per i partecipanti nel corso del weekend.

Tutti i candidati saranno informati dell’esito della procedura di selezione entro lunedì 6 aprile via email.
Per partecipanti provenienti da fuori Milano, saremo lieti di aiutare a trovare una sistemazione economica per il pernottamento.
Il costo del workshop è di 200 euro.

SIMON STEPHENS
Simon Stephens (Manchester, 1971) è una delle voci più influenti della scena anglosassone contemporanea e autore di più di trenta opere nel corso degli ultimi 20 anni. I suoi testi sono stati rappresentati da importanti teatri in Regno Unito, Usa, Canada, Olanda, Germania ed est Europa. Dopo aver insegnato per il Young Writers Program del Royal Court Theater (2001-2005), è diventato Artistic Associate del Lyric Hammersmith di Londra. Autore premiatissimo, il suo adattamento del romanzo di Mark Haddon “Lo strano caso del cane ucciso a mezzanotte”, clamoroso successo nel West End londinese e a Broadway, ha vinto l’Olivier e il Tony Awards nella categoria Best New Play. Il 2019 ha visto il debutto del suo nuovo lavoro “Light falls”, al Royal Exchange Theatre di Manchester.
Dal 2017 è professore di sceneggiatura alla Manchester Metropolitan University.

After the great workshop we hosted in 2018 and 2019, with attendees from Italy, United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Poland, the Netherlands and USA, and after the great success of his play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, viewed by over 20000 people at the Elfo Puccini Theatre, Simon Stephens will be back at The Art Land (Fabbrica del Vapore, Milan) for another two-day workshop.

It is a unique opportunity, for beginners and experienced writers alike, to study with a brilliant and engaging master really passionate about his job.

“Thoughts, laughs, notes and inspirations from the workshop are still in my head. As per Simon’s definition of nostalgia (something from the past which was interrupted and we wish would continue), I already feel nostalgic” ―one of the attendees from last year’s workshop.

The number of participants is limited to 15 and the workshop will be held in English: a C1 written and oral proficiency level is required for all attendees.
The workshop will take place on May 16th and 17th, from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. Other collateral events (theatre visits, rehearsals watch, meeting with local artists) will be organised for the attendees during the course of the weekend.

All candidates applying to this call will be informed by mail about the outcome of the selection process by Monday April 6th. For attendees not living in Milan, we will be glad to assist in finding lodging at an affordable price.
The participation fee for the workshop is 200 Euros.

SIMON STEPHENS
Simon Stephens (Manchester, 1971) is one of today’s leading playwrights, with more than 30 plays written over the last 20 years. His works have been staged by the most prominent theatres in the UK, US, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany and Eastern Europe. Having taught at the Young Writers Program of the Royal Court (2001-2005), he is now Artistic Associate at the Lyric Hammersmith in London. His adaptation of Mark Haddon’s novel “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time” won the Oliver and Tony Awards for Best New Play. In 2018 his new play “Light falls” premiered at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
He is Professor of Scriptwriting at the Manchester Metropolitan University since 2017.
